Fervent Bidding Results in a Record-Breaking Sonoma County Barrel Auction

Santa Rosa, CA (April 20, 2018)—A record-setting $840,700 was raised today, up six percent over the previous year, at the Fourth Annual Sonoma County Barrel Auction at MacMurray Estate Vineyards™.  A crowd of over 500 people celebrated and applauded in excitement as each of the 97 never before, never again barrel futures were scooped up by wine trade in attendance as well as proxy bidders calling in from around the country. In a moving speech to kick off the event, Dan Kosta of AldenAlli thanked this year’s Sonoma County Barrel Auction Icons, groups of individuals from the Sonoma County community who rose to the challenge of the October wildfires, demonstrating exceptional leadership, courage, heroism, sacrifice and selflessness as they aided those in need. Sonoma County Vintners Foundation Pledges $600,000 To Homes For Sonoma To Build Affordable Housing For Those Impacted By Fires

SANTA ROSA, CA (March 30, 2018) – The Sonoma County Vintners Foundation has announced a pledge of $600,000 from its Hamel/Fogerty Fund towards the development of an affordable community of modular cottages. Marking a significant step in creating new affordable housing for individuals and families displaced by last fall’s wildfires, Homes for Sonoma is pleased to receive this major lead gift. “Access to housing is critical for our community to recover and thrive,” said George Hamel, Jr. of Hamel Family Wines on behalf of the Sonoma County Vintners Foundation. “We’re proud to support this innovative project to build much-needed affordable homes in our area for those who were displaced by the fires.” A volunteer-led effort, Homes for Sonoma is collaborating with architects, local business and governing offices to design and build neighborhoods of compact cottages, complete with outdoor communal areas, a soccer field and shared garden, for those in desperate need of affordable housing. Sonoma County Barrel Auction Unveils 100 Exclusive Wine Lots

Santa Rosa, CA (March 28, 2018) — Sonoma County Vintners unveiled 100 rare and unique wines, the most ever offered, that will each be sold to the highest bidder at the Fourth Annual Sonoma County Barrel Auction for licensed wine trade taking place Friday, April 20, 2018. The 2018 lots from Sonoma County’s top vineyards and wineries are described in full on the auction website and will be auctioned off at the event taking place at MacMurray Estate Vineyards™. The 2018 Sonoma County Barrel Auction lots represent the diversity of Sonoma County with at least a dozen new winery entrants this year and auction lots from the newest approved appellation, Petaluma Gap. Each lot submitted for the auction was evaluated in double blind tastings held in March by seven panelists comprised of Master Sommeliers and Masters of Wine. Sonoma County Barrel Auction lots range in size from five to 20 cases and include highly collectible single vineyard bottlings, blends, and joint lot wines made by collaborating wineries.
