H.R. 7849 The Disaster Resiliency and Coverage Act of 2024 Announced

Sonoma County Vintners Participates in Press Conference with Rep. Mike Thompson, Rep. Jared Huffman and Community Leaders

SANTA ROSA, CA (April 25, 2024) – Sonoma County Vintners (SCV) Executive Director Michael Haney was honored to speak at a press conference on April 25 announcing H.R. 7849, The Disaster Resiliency and Coverage Act of 2024, with Rep. Mike Thompson, Rep. Jared Huffman and Sonoma County community leaders. This bi-partisan bill has been created to help address California’s property insurance crisis. The press conference was held in Coffey Park, a reminder of how important insurance coverage has been to the area still recovering from the 2017 Tubbs Fire. SCV suggested content to the bill directed at assisting our wine and agriculture community regarding fire mitigation efforts and insurance access. SCV is grateful to have their concerns heard by these representatives and will continue to work with them and other community leaders to see this bill passed.

“Our multigenerational wine and agricultural communities have been greatly impacted by the lack of access to affordable insurance. Many who once could afford one or two policies that provided complete coverage for their properties and businesses now face the challenge of needing four or five policies to provide only partial coverage at a 100% to 400% rate increase. The proposed legislation is a fantastic step in addressing this critical issue and supporting our wine and agricultural community as we continue our comprehensive wildfire mitigation work,” said Michael Haney, Executive Director of Sonoma County Vintners.
